Il tragico incendio avvenuto nel traforo del Monte Bianco il 24 marzo 1999 ha rappresentato un fondamentale punto di svolta nel nostro modo di concepire la sicurezza delle gallerie stradali. Molte riflessioni e soluzioni adottate nel quadro del risanamento sono confluite nelle attuali norme e raccomandazioni che costituiscono la base del tunneling moderno. A una ventina di anni di distanza si propongono alcune riflessioni sull’evoluzione dello “stato dell’arte” nel campo della sicurezza infrastrutturale, sulla situazione attuale e sulle prospettive future.

20 years after the fire in the Montblanc tunnel – Lessons and heritage
The tragic fire in the Mont Blanc tunnel on 24 March 1999 represented a fundamental turning point in our way of conceiving the safety of road tunnels. Many reflections and solutions adopted in the framework of the rehabilitation were conveyed into the current rules and recommendations which form the basis of modern tunneling. Twenty years later, some reflections are proposed on the evolution of the “state of the art” in the field of infrastructural safety, on the current situation and on future perspectives.
