The paper presents reminiscences by the author of the more than forty years he was in contact with Professor Rudolf Kassel, one of the greatest classicists of his lifetime: how he got to know him and his achievements, in what way he took part in Kassel’s great enterprise of editing the fragments of Greek Comedy, and how his own work benefited from Kassel’s valuable advice over several decades (almost) up until his death.
